About

From Moldova to Malden

Bikeeny caffe is the love project of three good friends: Octavian, Evelina and Serg. Originally from the Republic of Moldova, they wanted to bring a bit of Eastern Europe to Malden. Each of them has a different background and set of skills that come together to create a complete business package. Octavian takes care of operations, Evelina handles accounting and financing, and Serg is the food guy.

It all started with an idea. Evelina commissioned a designer and developed the branding of the cafe. Serg has worked in the restaurant industry for over ten years in five different states and four different countries. Octavian always knew he would work for himself some day. The three friends met some years ago while working at the Harbor View hotel on Martha’s Vineyard. One day, Serg and Octavian hit the road to research their business idea. 4,500 miles later, they’d traveled all across the country from Orlando, Florida to Seattle, Washington, home to some of the best coffee in the country.

At first, Bikeeny was going to be a food truck with great pastries and exceptional coffee. After consulting with local food truck owners, however, it was decided that a brick and mortar location would be the better way to go. (All respect is due to the brave men and women that face the unpredictable New England weather in their mobile businesses!)

Since Malden is one of the most diverse cities in Massachusetts, the decision on the location was easy. Bikeeny is about Moldovan pies, Italian style coffee, and American customer service. There are three pillars to a different experience in our cafe:

Bikeeny caffe food

Bi·kee·ny
/biˈkēnē/
noun
plural noun: bikeenies
– an European style pastry made of flaky dough with fillings such as fruit, nuts or cheese.

Our pastries, the bikeenies, are made in house, right here in Malden. It takes about 3 days for one batch. Making sheet pastry from scratch is a labor of love process and you can tell the difference. The dough has very few ingredients: flour, butter, salt and filtered water. We have a few dozen different flavors to choose from: Nutella,  Feta Dill, Cinnamon, Honey almond and Cream cheese and chive just to name a few.

We’re home to the best Egg Sandwiches around. What makes them unique is that we use a soft boiled egg to make them. Fresh, clean ingredients, made from scratch, to order.  We also make a killer panini sandwich.

Our coffee

Luck had it that we met the right people on our coffee hunt. We knew we wanted to do something different than most coffee establishments. Hogan Brothers, out of Framingham, is our local micro-roaster and good friends. What they do is remarkable: source sustainable beans, roasted in small batches, and delivered to us within 48 hours–every week! Now that we make freshly roasted coffee, you can taste the difference. The orders are kept small in order to avoid oxidized coffee on a shelf somewhere, and it is clearly more difficult to do it this way. That is why what we are doing is not an industry standard. Nothing about our coffee is standard, as it is definitely superior to anything we’ve ever had before.

Customer Service

We are your local coffee shop and want to be an integral part of the community. We love to see happy customers coming back and bringing their friends and family. The best thing we offer is that we will listen. If you have a good idea for a better experience, let us know–we are always striving for improvement! Your opinion matters in our small neighborhood business. We can assure you that there will be a big smile behind the counter waiting for you, ready to make your day a little better, one coffee cup at a time.

Feel free to stop by and ask us all about the great food and drinks we have. We are proud of what we serve and are behind it one hundred percent! You can also find us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
